COMMUNION GUIDE

Invitation to the Table

Tonight we gather together as brothers and sisters. We gather around the table to celebrate the love of God displayed in the cross of Christ. At this table, we remember the gospel: that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. At this table, we celebrate that we who are in Jesus are forgiven, set free, and given new life that begins now and lasts for eternity. This meal is for all who trust in Jesus as saviour and lord. This table is for weary disciples, all who struggle, and all who sin and need a saviour.

Scripture Reading

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 — But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 11:23–25 …The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Prayer

Father, thank you for your love revealed to us in Jesus. Thank you for wiping our sins away and making us alive in Jesus. Tonight, we remember the death of Jesus, where your love was poured out to set us free from the powers of Satan, sin, and death. Thank you for this free gift of love. Amen.

The Meal

Jesus gave his disciples this meal to remind them of what he did to save us. Tonight, we break this bread and drink this cup to remember that Jesus' body was broken, and his blood was poured out to save sinners like you and me.

Leader holds bread: “This is Christ’s body, broken for you. Take and eat in remembrance of him” [Eat the bread together.]

Leader holds cup: “This is Christ’s blood, poured out for you and for the forgiveness of sins. Drink this in remembrance of him.” [Drink the cup together.]

1 Corinthians 11:26 — For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Say together: “Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.”
