COMMUNION GUIDE

Invitation to the Table

Tonight, we gather as brothers and sisters around the table to celebrate the love of God. Here, we remember the gospel: that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. At the table, we celebrate that we are loved, forgiven, set free, and given new life. This table is for all who follow Jesus. It’s for weary disciples, all who struggle, and all who sin and need a saviour. Here at the table, we taste and see that God is love.

Scripture Reading

Romans 5:8 — But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 11:23–25 …The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Prayer

Father, thank you for demonstrating your love to us in Jesus. Thank you for wiping away our sins and giving us new life. Jesus, thank you for breaking your body and pouring out your blood to show us your love and to save us from sin. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to taste and receive your love. Amen.

The Meal

Jesus gave us this meal to remind us of his love and what he did to save us. Here at the table, we break this bread and drink this cup to remember that Jesus' body was broken, and his blood was poured out to save sinners like you and me.

Leader holds bread: “This is Christ’s body, broken for you. Take and eat in remembrance of him” [Eat the bread together.]

Leader holds cup: “This is Christ’s blood, poured out for you and for the forgiveness of sins. Drink this in remembrance of him.” [Drink the cup together.]

1 Corinthians 11:26 — For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
