06 — MAKING DISCIPLEs

Debrief the practice (10 mins)

  1. What have you been learning about in Scripture? How has God been using the BREAD practice to speak to you? What has God been doing in your life?

  2. How did last week’s practice go? What was impactful, difficult, surprising, or meaningful for you?

Discussion (30 mins)

  1. Watch 06 – Making Disciples. What stood out to you?

  2. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” What do you think it means to declare Jesus as Lord?

  3. How would you help someone who wants to become a Christian? How would you lead them to Christ?

  4. If you led someone to faith in Jesus, how could you help them grow in their relationship with Jesus?

  5. In the Great Commission, Jesus calls us to make disciples, not just converts. What’s the difference between a convert and a disciple?

  1. Read Matthew 28:19-20 together. Our job is to make disciples who know how to follow Jesus. What sort of things do you think Jesus has in mind when he says, “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”?What’s one way you can step out of your comfort zone this week and start a faith conversation with someone?

Prayer (10 mins)

The practice for this week is to put to memory how you can help others become followers of Jesus. How would you lead someone to Christ? And how would you help them follow Jesus?

  1. Know the gospel

    1. Here is a summary of the gospel: The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died and rose again to save us from sin and bring us into a new life with him. Salvation is a gift of grace that cannot be earned but is received through faith. To become a Christian, a person must believe in Jesus' death and resurrection and declare Him as the Lord of their life. This transformation makes them a new creation, forgiven and filled with the Holy Spirit, beginning a lifelong journey of discipleship.

    2. Memorize Bible verses like these:

      • John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

      • Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

      • Romans 10:9 – If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

      • John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

      • Ephesians 2:8-9 – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

  2. Know the response

    • To become a Christian means that you believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead. It also means that you want to follow Jesus. It means that you actually want to follow him as the lord of your life.

    • To become a Christian means you believe and declare that Jesus is lord (Rom. 10:9).

    • Sinner’s prayer:  “Jesus, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn away from my sins and invite you to come into my life. I want to follow you and make you my lord. Thank you for saving me today and making me new. – Amen.” *

  3. Know the invitation

    1. The invitation is to follow Jesus – this is what it means to be a disciple (Matt. 16:24). A disciple is someone who both believes in and follows Jesus. And the Christian life is about believing in, having a relationship with, and following Jesus.

___

* There’s nothing magical about this prayer. This is just a way you can help people confess and declare their faith in Jesus. This is a way you can help someone cross over the line and become a follower of Jesus.
